In the 1950s, TV advertisers sold products through live demonstrations, celebrity testimonials, and ads integrated directly into the programs. In the 1960s, advertisers embraced new techniques to reach emerging generations of consumers, Brian Rose looks at the early years of TV advertising and its role in convincing viewers that they could quite literally buy their way into the American dream.
