Program Description

Event Details

We’re launching New York History Month with a screening and discussion of Hank Linhart’s docu-poem Blissville: An Investigation. Wedged in a corner of Queens between Newtown Creek, Calvary Cemetery and the Queens-Midtown Expressway, tiny out-of-the-way Blissville boasted the world’s largest fortune cookie factory, a sushi factory, an Afghan bakery, a car-crushing facility and a company making Statue of Library replicas that still operates today. Join us in exploring the story of this small yet dynamic neighborhood, home to multiple nationalities and ethnic backgrounds (many first generation immigrants) surrounded by development and yet emblematic of “the resiliency of community.”

Registration required.
