Sylvie Rosenberg, privileged daughter of a renowned Jewish art dealer in Holland, was saved from the Nazis when her father exchanged a Rembrandt for her life. The Rembrandt was of 144 artworks stolen by the Nazis. (For more, read the New York Times article "Heirs make Huge Claim Over Dutch Art Trade.") These and other events form the basis for Janet Berg's two breathtaking and compelling novels, Rembrandt's Shadow and Restitution.
