Event Details

LIBRARIES LOVE LAKES WITH BOB MOZER. Fridays from 4:00-5:00 pm.

Our librarians love the water! Join Bob Mozer, professional groundwater geologist, to learn about the tools to keep our water safe and clean. A parent/guardian is encouraged to attend with participants in grades 4-12. Teens will receive 1 volunteer hour per session attended. Light snacks will be provided each week.

July 11. Libraries Love Lakes: Drones and GIS. How can drones and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) be used in our neighborhoods? Learn the ins and outs of drones, the rules and regulations of using them, and how they can help us to observe the impacts we have on our freshwater resources.

July 18. Libraries Love Lakes: More than the Beach. Join our professional groundwater geologist and a representative from the Suffolk County Water Authority to learn about our "Sole Source Aquifer" and how what we do on our land’s surface can affect our water quality.

July 25. Libraries Love Lakes: Take A Dip.  Do you know how water samples are taken? Learn about local water quality monitoring. Watch a video on a local sampling and find out how you can actively participate in caring for our local lakes.

August 1. Libraries Love Lakes: Water Stewardship. Join us to learn about some free apps that can help us take care of our local environment while earning volunteer hours.
